Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G Kishan Reddy, commenced a two-day official visit to Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) on 20 June 2025. During the visit, he will oversee operations at the Jhanjra Underground Mine and Sonepur Bazari Open Cast Project (OCP), inaugurate new infrastructure, and engage with workers and local communities.

A key highlight of the visit is the inauguration of Sindoor Park at Jhanjra, an Eco Park named to commemorate the success of Operation Sindoor. The park will also host the grand celebration of the International Day of Yoga 2025, reflecting the government's continued emphasis on environmental consciousness and wellness.

Shri Reddy will also inaugurate the newly constructed Mahudanga Rehabilitation Site, part of ECL’s commitment to improving the quality of life for those impacted by mining operations. In a gesture of support towards inclusive welfare, he will distribute appointment letters to beneficiaries under compassionate employment, in line with NCWA guidelines, and provide tricycles to individuals with disabilities at RN Colony in the Sonepur Bazari Area.

The Minister is scheduled to hold interactive sessions with stakeholders across the coal mining value chain, including frontline workers who have contributed significantly to ECL’s operational milestones. Shri Reddy will also visit Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) sites to meet Project Affected Persons (PAPs) and recognise employees for their outstanding performance.

The visit highlights the Ministry's focus on sustainable mining practices, social responsibility, and workforce recognition, reinforcing the government's broader goal of inclusive development in mining regions.
