NTPC Sources 3 Million Tonnes of Coal in Six Months under New Model

India's largest power producer, NTPC, has secured 3 million tonnes (MT) of coal from commercial miners over the last six months, implementing a new coal procurement model focused on doorstep delivery.

This initiative is designed to boost coal availability for electricity generation, especially during the peak summer season. Previously, NTPC sourced much of its coal from Coal India, captive mines, and imports.

This shift may also impact Coal India's market share in the long term, with analysts noting significant business opportunities for commercial mining companies.
