The government told the Rajya Sabha that coal-fired power plants across India held 42.8 million (mn) tonnes (t) of coal as of July 12, enough for 14 days of generation at an 85 per cent plant load factor (PLF). The reply said coal supplies were being monitored daily through a joint mechanism and that coal rakes were being given priority to support uninterrupted thermal generation during peak demand. Officials indicated that daily data on stock levels and rake movements was reviewed to manage dispatches and avoid generation shortfalls.

The Central Electricity Authority daily fuel report for July 14 showed that Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited's Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (New), with 1,000 megawatt (MW) capacity, held 68,000 t of coal, equal to four point three four days at 85 per cent PLF. The same report showed TSGenco's Yadadri thermal power station, with 3,200 megawatt (MW) capacity, had 156,400 t, equal to three point five eight days of stock. Those station level figures were noted as lower than the historical holding range for the state but remained sufficient for immediate needs.

Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) had been prioritising coal dispatch to Telangana thermal stations amid rising demand and El Nino conditions, with around 72 per cent of the company's coal output supplied to TSGenco thermal stations, NTPC Ramagundam and the Singareni thermal plant. The prioritisation was described as intended to sustain local generation by coordinating mine output, rail movement and plant receipts. Earlier reporting had indicated that Telangana stations typically maintained stocks in the 10 to 15 day range and that the state system continued to receive supplies without major disruption.

The Union power ministry response reiterated that coal supply was being monitored through the joint mechanism involving the power, railways and coal ministries and that priority was being afforded to rakes and dispatches to power houses. That coordination was framed as a measure to ensure uninterrupted generation during peak demand and to manage stocks and dispatches while demand patterns evolve. Central and state agencies were said to continue close oversight of the supply chain to maintain system reliability.
