ABB Unveils Cybersecure GCP100 Gas Chromatograph

ABB has launched the GCP100 gas chromatograph, the first in its new GCPro series, setting a new standard for cybersecurity and real-time analysis of complex gas mixtures across the natural gas, biogas, oil and petrochemical sectors. Designed to help operators monitor process stability and product quality, the GCP100 combines advanced analytics with embedded security features to deliver accurate insights while protecting critical industrial data.

The GCP100 is the first gas chromatograph with built-in cybersecurity and integrated Wi-Fi, eliminating dependence on third-party devices and reducing vulnerabilities linked to external encryption systems. By embedding all encryption capabilities directly within the analyser, ABB offers enhanced protection for confidential operational data—an essential requirement for industries operating critical infrastructure.

Jean-René Roy, Global Business Line Manager, ABB Measurement & Analytics, said the new series represents a major leap in GC technology and digitalisation. “We worked diligently to ensure the GCPro series becomes the benchmark for industry. For more than 60 years, ABB has led in gas chromatograph innovation, and the GCP100 continues that legacy,” he said.

Engineered for flexibility across industries, the GCP100 features low gas sample and carrier gas consumption, low energy requirements, and expanded operating temperatures from 60°C to 100°C. With detection capability down to 1 ppm and advanced modularity, it supports a wide range of applications while reducing the technical burden on operators.

Notable hardware and software innovations include dynamic QR code functionality, AI-powered tools, and a 4-inch gesture-controlled display. ABB claims the system can reduce maintenance-related downtime by up to 75 per cent, supported by its patented modular design. Through ABB’s AI-driven My Measurement Assistant+ and ABB Ability™ Genix Copilot, operators can access instant diagnostics, documentation and spare parts information for predictive maintenance.

With a low-power requirement of 12 Watts, the GCP100 enables smaller or shelter-free installations, reducing heating, ventilation and cooling demands and lowering both capital and operating costs. ABB positions the GCP100 as offering the lowest total cost of ownership in its class.
