BPCL, RBML Join Hands To Boost CNG And City Gas Network

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Reliance BP Mobility Ltd (RBML) have entered into a strategic collaboration to expand their footprint in city gas distribution (CGD) and compressed natural gas (CNG) sales across India.

RBML, a 50:50 joint venture between Reliance Industries Ltd and BP Plc (UK), operates in the mobility segment under the Jio-bp brand. The partnership seeks to enhance the reach of cleaner, more affordable fuel options while advancing India’s transition towards a gas-based economy.

Rahul Tandon, Business Head – Gas at BPCL, said the partnership would help “deliver our molecule to the end customer,” reinforcing the government’s vision of expanding natural gas use in India’s energy landscape.

In a joint statement, the two companies said the alliance will improve access to cleaner and cost-effective fuels and contribute to India’s target of raising the share of natural gas in the national energy mix from 6 per cent to 15 per cent by 2030.

Akshay Wadhwa, CEO of RBML, added that Jio-bp outlets attract significant customer traffic, which would help boost CNG sales and promote India’s clean energy transition.

The partnership reflects both organisations’ shared commitment to sustainable mobility, energy diversification, and nationwide natural gas adoption — key elements of India’s strategy to reduce emissions and enhance energy security.
