According to the latest data released by the Oil Ministry, fuel consumption in India rose by 2.6% in June, totaling 19.99 million metric tonnes. This uptick reflects a gradual recovery in economic activities and transportation demand following easing COVID-19 restrictions across the country. The increase in fuel consumption signals a positive trend in India's energy sector recovery amid ongoing efforts to stabilise economic growth.

The rise in fuel consumption is primarily attributed to higher demand for petrol, diesel, and aviation turbine fuel (ATF). Petrol consumption showed notable growth, driven by increased mobility and consumer activity, while diesel consumption saw steady recovery across industrial and commercial sectors. Aviation fuel consumption also rebounded as domestic travel resumed with improved passenger traffic.
