Indian Auto LPG Coalition Advocates for Inclusion in Clean Fuel Policy

The Indian Auto LPG Coalition (IAC) is advocating for Auto LPG to be prominently featured in India's clean fuel strategy, aiming to reduce harmful emissions and lower fuel costs for consumers. In a communication with Union Cabinet Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari, the IAC emphasized that Auto LPG, which is approximately 40% cheaper than petrol and emits fewer pollutants, presents a practical alternative to conventional fuels.

Suyash Gupta, Director General of IAC, highlighted the dual environmental and economic benefits of adopting Auto LPG. He underscored its potential to significantly reduce emissions such as CO2 and particulate matter, thereby enhancing air quality and public health.

To bolster the adoption of Auto LPG, the IAC proposed several strategic measures. These include integrating Auto LPG more prominently into the national clean fuel policy alongside electric vehicles (EVs) and compressed natural gas (CNG). Additionally, the coalition suggested tax incentives for manufacturers to produce Auto LPG vehicle variants and advocated for reducing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on Auto LPG from 18% to 5%. Aligning the GST rate with domestic LPG is expected to mitigate illegal diversion and make Auto LPG more affordable for consumers.

Gupta expressed confidence in the positive impact of these proposals, emphasizing Minister Gadkari's pivotal role in advancing sustainable and cleaner transportation solutions in India. He highlighted the importance of Gadkari's support in integrating Auto LPG into the country's broader clean fuel strategy, especially as India strives to diversify its energy sources and reduce dependence on imported oil.

The IAC's initiative comes at a critical juncture as India pursues environmental and economic objectives, aiming to enhance sustainability in transportation and achieve greater energy independence.
