Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IndianOil) and Air India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), marking a significant step in India’s aviation decarbonisation journey.
The agreement reflects both companies’ commitment to promoting low-carbon fuels in aviation and aligning with international climate goals. It follows IndianOil’s achievement as the first Indian company to receive ISCC CORSIA certification for SAF production at its Panipat Refinery. The certification, under ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation, confirms compliance with stringent global standards on sustainability and lifecycle carbon emissions.
IndianOil Chairman A. S. Sahney said the partnership represents a strategic move towards sustainable aviation, with certified SAF from Panipat ready to support decarbonised air travel. He added that the collaboration with India’s flagship carrier aligns national growth with global climate objectives and sets an industry benchmark.
Air India CEO Campbell Wilson said the airline is committed to supporting government initiatives on sustainable aviation and advancing its own goal of achieving IATA’s Net Zero by 2050. Integrating certified SAF into commercial operations will strengthen India’s position as a leader in sustainable aviation and energy transition.
Through this MoU, IndianOil and Air India will collaborate on SAF supply for international flights, helping to meet and potentially exceed CORSIA targets while ensuring a reliable and transparent green fuel supply chain.
