The scale of inspections covered outlets in multiple states and included both routine visits and sudden checks to deter any malpractice. The activity was described as a response to public concern and a measure to verify on ground compliance with fuel specifications.

The state-owned company follows a zero-tolerance policy towards fuel adulteration, contamination and any violation of prescribed quality standards and said strict action is pursued against dealers found in breach of contractual obligations. The firm emphasised that fuel quality is a matter of utmost importance and that teams operate daily to ensure that products supplied at pumps meet statutory and industry specifications. Regular inspections are complemented by scientific testing protocols and documented quality assurance procedures.

IOC has deployed hundreds of special inspection teams to independently verify compliance at retail outlets and to carry out targeted checks where complaints have been received or anomalies identified. Samples collected during checks are subjected to laboratory analysis and any confirmed non-compliance triggers contractual and regulatory remedies against the implicated dealer. The company also said that its monitoring includes supervisory reviews and follow up actions to prevent recurrence and to maintain supply chain integrity.
