L&T Wins Major BPCL Petrochemical Project at Bina

Larsen & Toubro’s Hydrocarbon Onshore business has secured a major order from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, the company said on Tuesday. L&T classifies any contract valued between Rs 50 billion and Rs 100 billion as a major order.

According to the statement, the scope of work includes engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of a Linear Low-Density Polyethylene and High-Density Polyethylene swing unit at BPCL’s Bina refinery in Madhya Pradesh. The project comprises two trains of 575 kilo tonnes per annum each and will be executed by L&T Onshore on a lump sum turnkey basis. Once completed, it is expected to be India’s largest LLDPE/HDPE swing unit, setting a new benchmark in polyethylene production capacity.

The project is a key component of BPCL’s Bina Petrochemicals and Refinery Expansion Project, which aims to establish a petrochemical complex and increase refinery capacity from 7.8 million tonnes per annum to 11 million tonnes per annum. The expansion aligns with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision by strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities and enhancing self-sufficiency in polymer production.

Commenting on the win, Subramanian Sarma, Deputy Managing Director and President of L&T, said the order would strengthen the company’s balance sheet and further reinforce its credentials in the downstream hydrocarbon EPC segment. ES Sathyanarayanan, Senior Vice President and IC Head of L&T Energy Hydrocarbon – Onshore, said the order reflects customer confidence in L&T’s execution and delivery capabilities, adding that the company remains committed to high standards of health, safety, environment and quality.

L&T Onshore is among India’s largest EPC players, providing comprehensive turnkey solutions across upstream, midstream and downstream hydrocarbon sectors. The business has a strong execution track record across geographies, with projects spanning refinery expansions, petrochemical complexes, gas processing plants, fertiliser units, LNG terminals and cross-country pipelines.
