Reliance Industries intends to temporarily close a crude unit and several secondary units at its export-oriented plant, which has a daily capacity of 704,000 barrels, for maintenance during September and October, according to three sources familiar with the matter.

Reliance operates the largest refining complex globally, comprising two plants that together can process approximately 1.4 million barrels per day.

The scheduled maintenance involves a shutdown of the crude unit and secondary components, including a hydrotreater, lasting for a duration of 3 to 4 weeks commencing in mid-September. In addition, the company is also planning a 47-day closure of a fluid catalytic cracker at its 660,000 barrels per day facility.

Reliance maintains a significant role as a prominent purchaser of Russian oil in the Indian market. One of the sources emphasised that the proposed shutdown timeline is subject to change and remains tentative in nature.
