Vedanta Secures Two Offshore Blocks in KG Basin Under DSF IV
Vedanta Oil and Gas has secured two offshore blocks in the Krishna Godavari (KG) Basin under the Government of India's Discovered Small Field (DSF) IV bidding round, strengthening its exploration and production portfolio along India's east coast.
The newly awarded assets include the shallow water block KG/OSDSF/G1/2025 and the deepwater block KG/DWDSF/GD10/2025. The acquisition forms part of Vedanta's strategy to expand its offshore operations and explore India's untapped hydrocarbon resources through advanced technologies and efficient project execution.
The blocks were awarded at a contract signing ceremony in New Delhi in the presence of Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Jim Johnny Gast, Interim CEO and Whole Time Director, Vedanta Oil and Gas, said, "As India's leading private oil & gas producer, we are committed to increasing production to meet the growing energy demands of the country. Offshore basins hold significant resource potential and will play a key role in reducing import dependency for oil & gas. The new blocks will augment our portfolio in the East Coast, and we look forward to leveraging our technical expertise, operational capabilities and partnerships to responsibly explore and develop these assets as part of our future growth roadmap."
The awards align with the Government's Samudra Manthan – National Deepwater Exploration Mission, which aims to accelerate offshore exploration, facilitate faster development of discoveries and encourage greater investment in deepwater and frontier basins.
Vedanta has already initiated deepwater exploration activities in the KG Basin, including three-dimensional controlled-source electromagnetic (3D CSEM) surveys to assess subsurface prospects and reduce exploration risks ahead of drilling.
Operating under the Cairn brand, Vedanta Oil and Gas holds interests in 43 blocks covering more than 44,000 sq km across India. Its portfolio includes gross proved and probable (2P) reserves and contingent (2C) resources totalling 1.3 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
The company's producing assets are located across Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Assam, supported by exploration technologies and subsurface engineering capabilities.
With the addition of the two DSF IV blocks, Vedanta aims to expand its offshore exploration activities, support domestic hydrocarbon production and contribute to reducing India's dependence on oil and gas imports.
