Mitsubishi Power to Supply Gas Turbines for Vietnam’s O Mon 4 Plant

Mitsubishi Power, the power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), has secured a contract in cooperation with Doosan Enerbility Co. to supply two state-of-the-art M701JAC gas turbines and auxiliary equipment for the O Mon 4 Gas Turbine Combined Cycle (GTCC) Power Plant. The contract was signed in August 2025.

Developed by Petrovietnam, the O Mon 4 plant will have a designed capacity of 1,155MW. The EPC contract was awarded to a consortium comprising Doosan Enerbility of South Korea and Vietnam’s Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 (PECC2). Mitsubishi Power’s JAC turbines, with more than 64 per cent combined cycle efficiency and proven reliability across 3 million operational hours, will be deployed in Vietnam for the first time.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place in late August in Can Tho, South Vietnam, and the plant is expected to be completed by 2028. Once operational, O Mon 4 will add stable electricity supply to the Mekong Delta, raising Petrovietnam’s installed capacity to more than 9,300MW, about 10 per cent of Vietnam’s national grid. The project forms part of the Block B – O Mon gas-to-power chain, a strategic initiative to reinforce Vietnam’s energy security and advance its energy transition.

Commenting on the milestone, Akihiro Ondo, CEO and Managing Director of Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., said:
“The O Mon 4 project marks a milestone in Vietnam's energy journey, and we are honored to contribute our state-of-the-art JAC gas turbines to this key power plant. Building on our proven track record across Asia, we are committed to delivering world-class reliability and performance for O Mon 4, working together with our partners.”

By delivering the JAC turbines, Mitsubishi Power reinforces support for Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8), which emphasises energy diversification, reduced reliance on coal, and expansion of natural gas and renewables. The project also aligns with Vietnam’s national ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Mitsubishi Power continues to advance industry-leading turbine technologies to ensure reliable electricity supply, strengthen energy systems, and drive sustainable growth across Vietnam and the Asia Pacific region.
