ABB on Monday announced the dispatch of its first wind power converter manufactured in India, following the acquisition of Gamesa Electric’s power electronics business in December 2025.

The converter was manufactured and shipped from ABB’s advanced Nelamangala facility near Bengaluru and delivered to a wind turbine original equipment manufacturer. ABB said the milestone underlines its expanded commitment to renewable energy and wind power in India and global markets.

The company said the dispatch marks a key step in integrating Gamesa Electric’s proven wind energy power conversion technologies into ABB’s portfolio. Aligned with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision and the ‘Make in India’ initiative, ABB is strengthening its Indian manufacturing footprint with a sharper focus on wind energy, alongside utility-scale solar and battery energy storage systems.

Anoop Anand, President of the Motion High Power Division at ABB India, said locally manufactured and grid-ready power conversion technologies will help strengthen wind power integration into electricity networks and support the global scale-up of renewable energy. He added that the development also reinforces India’s growing role as a hub for renewable energy manufacturing and deployment.

India is currently the world’s third-largest wind manufacturing base and is expected to meet around 10 per cent of global wind demand. Installed wind capacity in the country is projected to rise to 107 GW by 2030, highlighting wind power’s central role in India’s clean energy transition.

ABB has been active in advancing renewable energy for more than 15 years and has delivered over 60,000 wind converters and generators globally. The acquisition of Gamesa Electric’s power electronics business significantly enhances ABB’s renewable power conversion capabilities, expanding its serviceable installed base of wind converters by around 46 GW—equivalent to nearly one-fifth of India’s current installed renewable energy capacity.

With strong expertise in power electronics and grid integration, ABB said it is well positioned to support India’s next phase of renewable energy growth, where grid reliability, regulatory compliance and domestic manufacturing are increasingly critical. ABB India’s renewable portfolio includes utility-scale solar inverters, power conversion systems for battery energy storage and wind power converters, all manufactured locally to support India’s target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
