ACME Solar Commissions 155 MW Battery Storage in Rajasthan
The BESS are connected to the existing operational inter-state transmission system and will operate on a merchant basis, enabling an additional revenue stream by exploiting price differentials between peak and non-peak demand hours. The company indicated the systems will charge during non-peak periods and discharge during peak periods to balance supply and demand while capturing value from market price movements. The merchant model will allow dispatch flexibility for arbitrage and for provision of ancillary services to support frequency regulation and voltage management.
The company said the projects are designed to enhance grid reliability and optimise power utilisation, and that the battery systems will play a critical role in balancing energy supply and demand and in improving overall grid stability. It added that the flexibility provided by BESS supports operational responsiveness and facilitates higher integration of variable renewable generation. Project operation is expected to improve scheduling for renewable plants and to reduce curtailment risk during periods of high generation.
ACME Solar has a diversified renewable energy portfolio of 8,071 megawatt (MW) across solar, wind, storage, firm and dispatchable renewable energy and hybrid projects, of which 2,978 MW along with one gigawatt-hour (GWh) of BESS installations is operational. Projects totalling 5,093 MW along with 16 GWh of BESS installations are under construction, and the under construction power purchase agreement signed portfolio stands at 3,292 MW. The company noted that commissioning of these assets follows its established project delivery processes and standardised integration protocols to ensure safe and reliable operation.
