Adani Energy Solutions has installed 10 million (mn) smart meters and intends to add a further 10 mn devices in fiscal year FY27, the company said. The deployment marks a large scale roll out across its distribution footprint in urban and rural areas and follows earlier pilot projects and phased implementations. The expansion is presented as central to modernising metering infrastructure, enabling advanced grid services and supporting consumer digital services and future innovations.

The smart meters are expected to support accurate and timely meter readings, improve billing precision and reduce technical and commercial losses for distribution companies, while improving customer trust through more transparent billing. The metering platform will enable remote connect and disconnect functions, time of day tariffs, remote software updates and improved detection of outages and theft. Operators will be able to access richer consumption data to inform demand response, network planning and targeted efficiency programmes.

The programme is described as a key enabler for integrating distributed renewable generation and for managing variable load patterns across regions. Data analytics and automated control capabilities are intended to enhance system reliability at scale and to support customer facing services such as prepaid options and detailed usage insights. The company anticipates that the continued roll out through FY27 will consolidate these operational benefits and reduce response times to system faults.

The initiative is expected to accelerate digital transformation within distribution operations and to create opportunities for efficiency gains while maintaining regulatory compliance and data security. Stakeholders are expected to focus on interoperability, cybersecurity and customer engagement as the metering base expands and third party services integrate with platforms.
