Adani to Procure 1 GW Renewable Power with Thermal

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has granted Adani Electricity Mumbai (AEML) permission to purchase 1,000 MW of renewable power in conjunction with thermal power (500 MW plus an additional 500 MW under the green shoe option).

The commission added a stipulation that the green shoe option can be exercised only if the proposed procurement process begins after October 2024 and there is no further extension of 500 MW supply from Adani Dahanu Thermal Power Station.

The commission's decision came in response to AEML's petition, which sought permission to procure 1,000 MW of power from grid-connected renewable energy projects, supplemented by power from coal-fired power plants on a round-the-clock (RTC) basis.
