Adani Total Gas has issued a clarification stating that reports linking the company to the Adani Group’s planned battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Gujarat are incorrect. The company confirmed that the initiative is not related to its operations.
On Tuesday, the Gautam Adani-led group announced its entry into the BESS sector with a 1126 MW/3530 MWh project at Khavda, home to the world’s largest renewable energy park. Once commissioned, it will be India’s biggest and one of the world’s largest single-location battery storage deployments, featuring more than 700 BESS containers. The project is scheduled for commissioning by March.
According to the group, the project is in advanced stages and will incorporate advanced energy management systems to improve reliability and performance. The installation is expected to ease transmission congestion, reduce peak load stress and minimise solar curtailment — critical challenges in integrating large-scale renewable energy.
While the group has not disclosed the investment outlay, it plans to scale storage capacity to 15 GWh by FY27 and 50 GWh within five years, positioning itself as a significant global player in clean energy storage.
Shares of Adani Total Gas Ltd rose 1.36 per cent to close at Rs 621.10 on the BSE on Wednesday.
