Austria-based international technology group ANDRITZ has secured an order from Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) to supply key equipment for the 1,800 MW Gandikota pumped storage project (PSP) in the YSR Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The order includes the supply of reversible pump turbines, motor-generators, and associated electromechanical systems.

The contract marks ANDRITZ’s third collaboration with AGEL, following earlier orders for the 500 MW Chitravathi PSP in 2023 and the 1,500 MW Tarali PSP in Maharashtra earlier this year. The company described the latest contract value as being in the double-digit millions of euros.

In a press release, ANDRITZ stated that India is aggressively expanding its pumped storage capacity to support the growing share of variable renewable energy, such as solar and wind, within the national energy mix. The Gandikota PSP is expected to play a major role in grid balancing and energy security.

ANDRITZ confirmed that the scope of work for the Gandikota project includes the design, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning of all pump-storage units, along with associated auxiliaries. The project will be executed through ANDRITZ’s Indian manufacturing facilities, with additional support from its global engineering network.

The company noted that it is now engaged in the implementation of five new pumped storage plants across India, highlighting its strong position in the Indian hydropower sector.

In February 2025, Adani Green Energy announced its plan to develop over 5 GW of pumped hydro capacity by 2030, with work already underway at the Chitravathi (500 MW), Tarali (1,500 MW), and Gandikota (1,800 MW) projects.
