Apraava Energy Acquires Maharashtra Transmission Project

Apraava Energy has acquired Raigad Power Transmission, a special purpose vehicle for developing an intrastate transmission project across Pune and Raigad districts in Maharashtra. The project is intended to strengthen grid stability and support the evacuation of around 3 GW of electricity from potential pumped storage plants (PSPs) in Raigad.

The Mumbai-based integrated energy solutions provider has more than 200 MW of operational wind capacity and 70 MW of operational solar capacity in Maharashtra. It currently operates three transmission assets with around 1,000 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 3,500 MVA of substation capacity.

The project was awarded to Apraava through the tariff-based competitive bidding process. It will involve approximately 400 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, including around 340 circuit kilometres of 765 kV lines, with the balance comprising 400 kV and 220 kV double-circuit lines.

The development will also include a 4,500 MVA pooling station configured with three 1,500 MVA units at 765/400/220 kV. It will be built under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer model, with transmission services provided for a 35-year concession period after commissioning. Completion is scheduled within 24 months of signing the Transmission Service Agreement.

With the addition of Raigad Power Transmission, Apraava now has five greenfield transmission projects under construction. Together, these projects are expected to add around 1,580 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 18,000 MVA of substation capacity. The Maharashtra project is also expected to generate direct and indirect employment during its construction and operational phases, while supporting the integration of renewable energy into the state’s grid.
