APTRANSCO Joint Managing Director G Surya Sai Praveenchand said the transmission utility has set an ambitious target to complete around 55 major transmission projects valued at approximately Rs 93.19 billion. The projects are expected to add 8,853 MVA of transformation capacity and 1,558 circuit kilometres of transmission lines to Andhra Pradesh’s power grid.

He said new 400/220/132 kV substations are being developed at strategic locations including Kakinada SEZ, Achutapuram, Gudivada and Ainavalli, underscoring the state government’s commitment to ensuring round-the-clock, reliable and high-quality power supply.

Praveenchand said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, with the support of Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar and guidance from Chief Secretary K Vijayanand, Andhra Pradesh’s power utilities have prioritised transmission infrastructure expansion, system modernisation and the adoption of advanced technologies. The objective is to strengthen the state’s power sector and improve operational efficiency.

Currently, APTRANSCO operates 380 substations, 1,030 power transformers with a total capacity of 71,049 MVA, and more than 33,000 circuit kilometres of high-voltage transmission lines. The organisation is also implementing battery energy storage system projects with a capacity of 1,500 MW and 3,000 MWh in two phases to enhance grid stability and manage peak demand.

The expansion programme is expected to significantly improve transmission capacity, support industrial growth and reinforce the reliability of power supply across Andhra Pradesh.
