Assam CM Lays Foundation Stone for Adani Power’s 3,200 MW Project
The Chapar plant will consist of four 800 MW units and use ultra-supercritical technology, including high-efficiency systems and modern environmental safeguards. Commissioning is scheduled in phases from December 2030, after which the facility will supply electricity to households, businesses and industries in Assam.
The project forms part of a Rs. 630 bn power investment in Assam. This includes around Rs. 480 bn for the Chapar plant and approximately Rs. 150 bn for two pumped storage plants with a combined capacity of 2,700 MW, being developed through Adani Green Energy (AGEL).
Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) is implementing smart metering projects in the state, while the wider Adani Group has committed investments in aviation and cement. Terminal 2 at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati became operational on February 22, strengthening the state’s connectivity and industrial base.
The release said the group’s investments across sectors in Assam would exceed Rs. 800 bn over the next three to four years, creating opportunities for contractors, suppliers, transport operators and service providers. Adani Foundation has also supported more than 8,000 flood-affected families in Sivasagar and Dhemaji with food, medicines, sanitation and hygiene supplies, while its work in 19 villages in Kamrup Rural covers education, healthcare, livelihoods, infrastructure and climate action.
Adani Power emerged as the successful bidder for the plant in October 2025 and received the Letter of Award from Assam Power Distribution Company in November 2025. The Chapar project is among the largest single investments planned in Assam and is intended to strengthen the state’s generation capacity and broader energy ecosystem.
