Bihar CM Outlines Energy and Education Expansion

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has outlined the state government’s focus on expanding electricity access and strengthening education infrastructure, including digital learning initiatives and preparation for competitive examinations.

Speaking at the Bihar Ke Sachche Nayak – Real Heroes of Bihar programme, Choudhary said 17 mn families had not received an electricity bill for a year, while only 2.2 mn families were currently receiving bills. He said the government wanted to connect these households to solar power and reduce dependence on subsidies.

The chief minister said the state allocated about Rs. 60 bn for agricultural feeders in rural areas. He linked the expansion of village electricity infrastructure to Bihar’s broader economic development and said the state would prosper when its people became more self-reliant and strengthened their own resources.

Choudhary also highlighted the establishment of 700 model schools, which together have capacity for 350,000 students. The schools provide online education and live classes, with the government seeking to offer preparation for the Joint Entrance Examination and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test within Bihar rather than requiring students to travel to Kota in Rajasthan.

He further referred to the Vidyarthi Sathi App, which provides students with access to teachers and online study support at night. More than 142,000 students were using the platform for learning as late as 1 am, according to the chief minister.

The initiatives form part of the state government’s wider effort to combine public infrastructure development with technology-led education. The electricity measures focus on agricultural and household connections, while the model schools and mobile application are intended to extend access to structured teaching and examination support across Bihar.
