Bondada Bags NTPC REL Order For 100 MWh Battery Storage
The project is designed to support the integration of renewable generation into the national grid by providing long-duration storage capacity. VRFB technology offers several advantages over conventional lithium iron phosphate battery systems, including extended cycle life and the ability to scale energy and power independently. The use of vanadium electrolyte reduces degradation mechanisms common to particulate electrode chemistries and supports stable performance over prolonged duty cycles.
Bondada said the technology aligns with India’s vision of strengthening energy security by reducing long-term dependence on imported cells through the utilisation of domestic vanadium resources or import from diverse sources. The NTPC REL order includes 10 years of operations and maintenance to support commissioning and early operational performance. The extended service package is intended to ensure system availability and to facilitate knowledge transfer during initial deployment.
The deployment at Khavda Solar Park represents a step towards broader adoption of long-duration storage technologies within the renewable sector and supports efforts to balance intermittent generation with dispatchable capacity. The partnership between Bondada and Delectrik is positioned to build domestic competence in flow battery deployment and to support grid stability as renewable capacity expands. Over time, the project is intended to contribute to diversification of supply chains for critical battery materials and to strengthen domestic manufacturing capability.
