Cabinet approves Rs 207.73 bn power transmission in Ladakh
Following a comprehensive field survey, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) devised a plan to establish a 13 GW Renewable Energy (RE) generation capacity and a 12 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Pang, Ladakh.
It was stated in an official release that to handle this substantial amount of power, the creation of an inter-state transmission infrastructure would be necessary.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) endorsed the project on Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-II - Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) for the 13 GW Renewable Energy Project in Ladakh. The transmission line for evacuating this power would travel through Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, reaching Kaithal in Haryana, where it would be integrated with the National Grid.
