CEA Approves 50 MW Power Allocation for Kudankulam Units 3 & 4
The Southern Regional Power Committee (SRPC) issued the directive, which will allow the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) to proceed with the commissioning activities for the two units, located in Tamil Nadu. The approval follows the guidelines of the Indian Electricity Grid Code (IEGC).
NPCIL has made substantial progress on Units 3 and 4, with key milestones such as the completion of the inner containment dome and main coolant pipeline in Unit 3. The power allocation from Unit 1 will help facilitate the testing and operationalisation of the reactors.
This marks a significant step toward increasing India’s nuclear power generation capacity, with Units 3 and 4 expected to contribute up to 2,000 MW to the national grid once operational.
