Centre Releases Rs 370bn Under Revamped Power Distribution Scheme

The Ministry of Power has released Rs 370 billion under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), amounting to around 38 per cent of the scheme’s total sanctioned Gross Budgetary Support. The funding aims to strengthen state power distribution networks by improving infrastructure, reducing losses and enhancing service quality.

For FY 2025–26, Andhra Pradesh received Rs 2.04 billion, Bihar Rs 9.85 billion, Madhya Pradesh Rs 12.35 billion and Uttar Pradesh Rs 17.14 billion, among others. The Ministry said the release of funds is strictly conditional on distribution companies (DISCOMs) meeting prescribed milestones and fulfilling all requirements laid out in the scheme’s fund disbursal guidelines.

The RDSS seeks to modernise India’s power distribution sector through smart metering, network strengthening and financial reforms, with the goal of creating financially sustainable and operationally efficient DISCOMs.
