Coal Ministry to Launch 13th Round of Commercial Mine Auctions on August 21

The Ministry of Coal will launch the 13th round of commercial coal mine auctions on August 21, 2025, in New Delhi. Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy will attend the event as Chief Guest, with Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey as Guest of Honour.

The commercial auction framework, introduced in 2020, has been aimed at enhancing transparency, promoting competition and strengthening domestic coal availability. Since its launch, the initiative has attracted strong participation from both established miners and new entrants, reducing reliance on imports and supporting energy security.

The latest round will include a fresh set of fully explored and partially explored coal blocks, offered under liberal terms to facilitate ease of doing business and attract diverse investors. The auction will also highlight opportunities in underground and surface coal gasification.

In addition, Coal Mine Development & Production Agreements (CMDPAs) will be signed for 11 mines allocated in earlier auction rounds.

The ministry said the auction process remains central to India’s goal of boosting coal production while advancing its broader vision of Viksit Bharat through reforms, investment opportunities and responsible mining practices.
