Concord Wins NTPC Order for 3100 HP Hydrogen Locomotive

Concord Control Systems has secured an order from NTPC to develop the world’s largest 3,100 HP hydrogen-fuelled locomotive propulsion system. The project will be executed through its wholly owned subsidiary, Advance Rail Controls, following the award valued at Rs 470 million.

The initiative involves converting a diesel locomotive into a hydrogen-powered engine, representing the highest-ever horsepower conversion globally. Designed as a commercially deployable solution for freight operations, the project positions India as the first country to attempt hydrogen propulsion at this scale.

Aligned with Indian Railways’ target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2030, the project supports India’s broader decarbonisation and clean mobility agenda, while reinforcing its leadership in next-generation, zero-emission rail technology.
