CPDL Installs Second 20 MVA Transformer to Boost Chandigarh Power

Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has commissioned another 20 MVA, 66/11 kV power transformer at the 66 kV grid sub-station in IT Park, strengthening the city’s electricity infrastructure and improving supply reliability.

The new transformer will provide major relief to consumers in IT Park, Manimajra, Kishangarh and neighbouring areas, which previously experienced power shortages during peak summer months. Arun Kumar Verma, Director of CPDL, said the enhanced capacity will help ensure a more stable and uninterrupted power supply. Officials added that the installation will also serve as an alternate source of power from the grid sub-station during emergencies and will reduce the load on the Manimajra sub-station by diverting part of the demand.

This is the second 20 MVA, 66/11 kV transformer commissioned by CPDL since assuming responsibility for Chandigarh’s electricity distribution, following the first unit installed at the 66 kV grid sub-station in Industrial Area Phase II.

Two additional power transformers are scheduled for commissioning in the coming months at Sector 56 and Industrial Area Phase I, providing further reinforcement to Chandigarh’s distribution network.
