Delhi experienced a record-breaking peak power demand of 7,717 MW amid an intense heatwave, surpassing previous records and highlighting the impact of extreme temperatures on energy consumption. This unprecedented demand was primarily driven by increased use of cooling appliances like air conditioners and fans.

The previous peak, recorded just the day before, was 7,695 MW. Since the start of May, Delhi has seen a continuous rise in power demand, with multiple instances of exceeding 6,000 MW daily. The relentless heat, with temperatures soaring above 43?C in some areas, has significantly contributed to this surge.

Authorities are managing the high demand with a mix of traditional and green energy sources, including solar and wind power, to ensure a stable supply. The trend suggests that if the heatwave persists, Delhi?s power demand could reach new heights, potentially crossing 8,000 MW this summer.
