EIL Signs MoU with NPCIL for Bharat SMR Project

Engineers India (EIL), a state-owned engineering and consultancy company, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) to provide engineering services for the development of small modular reactors (SMRs). The collaboration is a key step towards advancing India’s nuclear energy programme and achieving the government’s clean energy targets.

The MoU covers engineering services for the conceptual design and engineering of structures, systems, and components of the Bharat Small Modular Reactor (BSMR). According to EIL, the partnership aligns with the government’s vision to accelerate nuclear power deployment as part of the Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat, which aims to achieve 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Vartika Shukla, Chairman and Managing Director, EIL, and B C Pathak, Chairman and Managing Director, NPCIL, along with senior officials from both organisations at NPCIL’s Mumbai office on August 12.

EIL, a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, provides end-to-end services from concept to commissioning across diverse industrial sectors. NPCIL, under the Department of Atomic Energy, is responsible for the design, construction, and operation of nuclear power plants across India.
