Flender launches India’s largest wind gearbox test rig in Walajabad

Flender has inaugurated a 13.5 MW wind turbine gearbox test rig at its Walajabad facility near Chennai, marking the largest installation of its kind in India. The new facility is expected to strengthen the company’s manufacturing and testing capabilities while supporting the growing demands of the wind power sector in both domestic and global markets.
The test rig was inaugurated on March 5 in the presence of Andreas Evertz, Group CEO, Flender; Lars Wiegemann, Vice President Wind Gears, Flender; and Vinod Shetty, CEO, Flender India, along with key industry customers and stakeholders.
The installation represents a major milestone in Flender’s efforts to advance renewable energy technologies and enhance its contribution to the wind energy ecosystem. Developed through collaboration between Flender teams in Germany, China, and India, the project was completed in just three months, reflecting strong international coordination and efficient project execution.

The Walajabad facility expansion is expected to further strengthen Flender’s position as a leading provider of drive technology solutions while enabling faster and more reliable testing of high-capacity wind turbine gearboxes.

With the addition of the Walajabad test rig, Flender aims to further strengthen innovation, quality, and customer-focused solutions in the rapidly evolving renewable energy sector.
