GAIL To Set Up 600 MW Solar Project In Uttar Pradesh
The contracts were executed with TUSCO Limited (TUSCO) as the developer for the solar park at Jhansi. The agreements were signed by Parivesh Chugh, executive director for strategic development and renewables at GAIL, and Anil Tyagi, chief executive officer of TUSCO, in the presence of R K Singhal, director for business development at GAIL, Neeraj Verma, executive director at THDC and other senior officials from both companies.
The solar project will include a 550 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to support grid integration and ensure supply stability. The capacity is intended primarily to meet the captive energy requirements of GAIL’s petrochemical plant at Pata in Auraiya district. The project will also help meet additional demand arising from electrification of gas-based equipment and from compressed biogas plants that are being set up in Uttar Pradesh.
The undertaking is presented by the company as a step to provide reliable clean power for industrial operations and to strengthen energy security for its facilities in the region. The initiative is aligned with GAIL’s strategic shift towards sustainable energy offerings and is intended to support electrification projects that reduce reliance on fossil fuel burning at its sites. The partnership with TUSCO and coordination with THDC are intended to leverage existing solar infrastructure and project execution expertise while supporting Uttar Pradesh’s broader renewable energy capacity additions.
