The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) notified the Scheme Guidelines for implementation of the "Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme ? Component II: Incentive Scheme for Green Hydrogen Production (under Mode 1)- Tranche-II" on 3rd July 2024. According to these guidelines, Tranche-II is set to have a capacity of 450,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of Green Hydrogen, with 40,000 TPA allocated for biomass-based pathways (bucket-II) and the remainder for technology agnostic pathways (bucket-I). Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has been designated as the implementing agency for this tranche as well, and SECI will soon issue the Request for Selection (RfS).
The bidding process will revolve around the least average incentive quoted by the bidder. Under bucket-I, bidders can bid a minimum of 10,000 TPA and a maximum of 90,000 TPA. In bucket-II, the minimum bid capacity is 500 TPA, and the maximum is 4,000 TPA. Bidders have the option to participate in either or both buckets, with a maximum allocation of 90,000 TPA per bidder for this tranche.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched on 4th January 2023, with an outlay of Rs. 19,744 crores up to FY 2029-30, aims to contribute to India?s goal of achieving self-reliance through clean energy and to serve as a model for the global Clean Energy Transition. The mission is expected to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the economy, decrease reliance on fossil fuel imports, and position India as a leader in Green Hydrogen technology and market.
