The Himachal Pradesh government has approved the recruitment of over 2,600 young candidates in the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL). The initiative aims to address staff shortages and enhance electricity services across the state.
This marks the first large-scale recruitment drive in recent years for the government-owned company. The appointments include 1,602 Bijli Upbhogta Mitras and 1,000 T-Mates.
A government spokesperson stated on Sunday that the decision was taken to fill vacant field posts and ensure uninterrupted power supply for consumers. Currently, HPSEBL has 4,009 sanctioned T-Mate positions, of which 3,049 remain vacant, affecting operations and service delivery.
“The Bijli Upbhogta Mitras will be engaged by an authorised government agency. Eligible candidates must have passed Matriculation and hold an ITI certificate in Electrical or Wireman trade from a recognised institution. The age limit for applicants is 18 to 30 years,” the spokesperson added.
He emphasised that field staff form the backbone of HPSEBL, playing a critical role in maintaining power supply, repairing damaged infrastructure, and restoring electricity during emergencies. Strengthening this workforce will significantly benefit consumers.
Chief Minister Sukhu reiterated the government’s commitment to employment generation. “In the last two and a half years, 23,191 youth have been employed in the government sector alone. Going forward, new avenues of employment and self-employment will be created to benefit the youth of the state,” he said.
