Hinduja Group To Invest Rs 25 bn In Tamil Nadu Renewables

Hinduja Group has pledged Rs 25 billion (bn) of new investment in Tamil Nadu to fund renewable energy, electric mobility and financial services, the group announced at the Vetri Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave 2026. The commitment was signed as a memorandum of understanding by Amit Saharia, group president for strategy at Hinduja Group, and Deepak Jacob, managing director and chief executive of Guidance, the state investment promotion agency, in the presence of chief minister Joseph Vijay and Ashok Hinduja. The announcement said the package is expected to generate 500 jobs in the state.

The bulk of the investment will fund more than 200 megawatt (MW) of renewable energy capacity across solar, wind and battery storage, to be developed by Hinduja Renewables Energy. The company is seeking land and grid connectivity in five districts — Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai and Coimbatore — that form part of Tamil Nadu's wind- and solar-rich southern corridor. Officials indicated projects will focus on integrating storage and grid services to support local industry and supply chains.

In electric mobility, OHM Global Mobility, the group's e-bus unit, will roll out electric buses for public transport in the state and expand its broader mobility offering. The group said it will also examine opportunities in automotive manufacturing, financial services, battery charging infrastructure and digital mobility services, without providing a financial breakdown for those strands. The release framed the move as part of a broader push to participate in the state's clean-energy transition.

The commitment builds on a Rs 75 bn pledge by Hinduja Group UK in September 2025 covering battery manufacturing, battery energy storage systems and charging infrastructure, and follows the March 2026 groundbreaking of a Rs 5 bn battery pack plant by Ashok Leyland at Pillaipakkam, near Chennai. The announcement extended a long-standing relationship between the conglomerate and Tamil Nadu, where the portfolio already includes Ashok Leyland, Gulf Oil India, Hinduja Leyland Finance, Hinduja Housing Finance, Switch Mobility, Ohm Mobility, Gro Digital and Hinduja Tech.
