Husk Power Systems has teamed up with Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) to implement a solar-powered interconnected minigrid (IMG) in the Duduguru community of Nasarawa State. The project, located in the Obi Local Government Area, will cater to approximately 1,000 customers, providing an average daily energy supply of 656 kW. The minigrid will serve 80% residential households and 20% micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

Husk Power, which already operates over 40 isolated minigrids in Nigeria, plans to expand further by developing over 50 IMGs across 10 states. The agreement signing was attended by AEDC’s Acting Managing Director and CEO, Chijioke Okwuonkenye, Husk’s Nigeria Country Director, Olu Aruike, and Prince Bulus Iwala, Chief of Duduguru.

Manoj Sinha, Co-Founder and CEO, Husk Power Systems, noted that this partnership marks a significant step in scaling the renewable energy service company (RESCO) model for Nigeria and the wider Sub-Saharan region. Prince Bulus Iwala highlighted the project's potential to bring substantial development to the Duduguru community.

The IMGs will utilize AEDC’s existing transmission and distribution infrastructure, with Husk handling operations, maintenance, and billing. The initiative aims to transition the community from reliance on diesel power to cleaner solar energy, thereby strengthening the local energy supply and supporting sustainable development. (ET)
