On the second day of India Energy Week 2026, industry leaders and policymakers underlined the pillars shaping India’s energy transition, including LNG affordability, robust City Gas Distribution (CGD) networks, electrification and long-term demand planning. Discussions highlighted India’s growing influence as a global energy driver and the need for aligned policy, investment and technology.

At the Leadership Panel on global LNG supply dynamics, Akshay Kumar Singh, Managing Director and CEO, Petronet LNG, said LNG prices of USD 6–7/MMBtu are critical to expand gas usage across transport, power and city gas, enabling stable long-term demand.

The CGD leadership panel saw Shri Goutom Chakraborty, CEO, GAIL Gas Limited, emphasise pipeline connectivity and coordinated trunk and city-level planning. Abhilesh Gupta, MD and CEO, Indraprastha Gas Limited, highlighted PNG and CNG expansion and safety, while Suresh Manglani, Executive Director and CEO, Adani Total Gas Limited, called for a ‘Prajjwala’-style approach to drive sustained clean fuel usage.

Presenting the World Oil Outlook 2025, Dr Abderrezak Benyoucef, Head, Energy Studies Department, OPEC, projected India as the largest contributor to global energy demand growth, adding 8.2 million barrels per day of oil demand by 2050, alongside a balanced mix of oil, gas and renewables.

The Transition Stage panel on electrification featured H E Ahmed Al Kaabi, Naveen Srivastava, Ghanshyam Prasad, Suman Chandra and Prince Dhawan, who stressed grid expansion, digitalisation and reforms such as RDSS to build a resilient, low-carbon power system.
