The Seventh Meeting of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Regional Committee for Europe and the Others Region was held in Brussels from 10 to 12 June 2026. The meeting was chaired by Filippo Parzola, Deputy Head of Unit for Multilateral Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy.

The meeting brought together representatives of Member, Signatory and Prospective Countries, partner governments, development finance institutions, industry leaders and energy experts. Discussions focused on accelerating solar deployment, strengthening electrification initiatives and supporting a secure, resilient and inclusive global energy transition.

Participants highlighted the region’s strengths in finance, technology and innovation, and its role in supporting solar deployment across developing economies. Key areas of discussion included energy security, climate action, large-scale solar projects, storage technologies, digital energy systems, artificial intelligence and resilient clean energy supply chains.

The Regional Committee also reviewed cooperation under ISA’s strategic pillars, including the Catalytic Finance Hub, Global Capability Centre and digitisation. Member Countries reaffirmed support for stronger collaboration in solar finance, grids, digitalisation and capacity building.

Ashish Khanna, Director General, International Solar Alliance, said solar remained one of the fastest ways to meet rising electrification needs in the short and medium term. He also said artificial intelligence could significantly change the energy sector, particularly in how distribution systems are designed as more consumers use rooftop solar and batteries.

Filippo Parzola said the future of energy was becoming increasingly electric across transport, buildings, industry, agriculture, cooling and green hydrogen. He added that solar, when combined with storage, modern grids, digital tools and cross-border cooperation, could help countries reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and improve energy security.

H.E. Pranay Verma, Ambassador of India to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union, said India’s clean energy journey was not only for India, but for the world. He highlighted initiatives such as One Sun, One World, One Grid and India’s partnership with the European Union.

A key highlight was the launch of the first knowledge product under ISA’s SUNRISE platform, titled Battery Recycling Guidelines for ISA Member Countries: Advancing Circular Battery Value Chains. Developed in consultation with over 120 stakeholders from more than 24 countries, the report provides guidance for safe, efficient and traceable end-of-life battery management systems.

The meeting also included a CEO Caucus on diversifying solar supply chains and a high-level dialogue on energy security, solar energy, storage and modern grids. Discussions further covered ISA–Africa–Europe cooperation, with emphasis on finance, technology transfer and capacity building for Africa, LDCs and SIDS.

ISA also extended an invitation to the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026, to be held from 2 to 5 November 2026 in New Delhi, alongside the 9th Session of the ISA Assembly and the 4th International Conference on Green Hydrogen.
