Minister Jayant Chaudhary flagged off five new Solar Community Hub Skill Vans to expand digital access and future-ready skilling across India. The units were developed by Dell Technologies in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation and implemented by the Learning Links Foundation. They will operate in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi/NCR, Karnataka, Telangana and Maharashtra and are intended to bring solar-powered technology, AI-enabled learning and defined employability pathways directly to youth, women and underserved communities. The initiative is presented as the next phase of a global effort to bridge the digital divide.

The skill vans introduce customised skilling modules and structured employability pathways and extend technology-enabled support to over 50 vocational, higher education and community institutions. Each unit is powered by renewable energy and fitted with laptops, interactive screens, internet connectivity and AI-enabled learning tools designed to operate where infrastructure is limited. The design emphasises local connectivity, job-relevant training and access to essential services.

Training delivered through the vans is aligned with emerging market demands and seeks to equip participants for roles that are expected to arise as industries evolve rather than solely for existing jobs. Since the first vans were introduced in fiscal year 2023 the programme has reached 18 districts across 14 states and has directly impacted 2.67 million (2.67 mn) India-based beneficiaries. Globally the initiative operates 63 skill vans across 12 countries and the expansion is framed as deepening efforts to improve access to technology, skills and economic mobility. Organisers signal that the model aims to prepare a new generation of learners and workers within their own communities.

The collaboration between government, industry and civil society will support implementation, local partnerships and scaled deployment of the hubs. Stakeholders expect the hubs to function as centres where clean energy, digital learning and industry-aligned skilling converge to strengthen inclusive growth and workforce readiness. The press release provided by the implementing partners noted the technical and operational features of the vans and reiterated commitments to broaden reach over the coming months.
