Jindal Stainless Part Commissions 315.6 MW Hybrid Power Project

Jindal Stainless and Oyster Renewable Energy have part commissioned a 315.6 MW hybrid solar and wind project at Agar-Malwa in Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant advance in industrial decarbonisation. The project, developed by Oyster Renewable, involves an overall investment of over Rs 20 bn, with Jindal Stainless committing Rs 1.32 bn to the venture. Initial commissioning has begun at the Madhya Pradesh facility and further phases will bring the Gujarat facility online.

The facility is co-located across sites in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat and will generate about 216 MW of solar and wind power in Madhya Pradesh and 99 MW in Gujarat when complete. The hybrid configuration pairs bifacial solar modules on trackers with advanced Suzlon 3.15 MW wind turbines to smooth generation and improve availability for industrial load. The design aims to provide more stable renewable energy for onsite consumption and to reduce reliance on conventional power sources.

Commissioning in phases is intended to support Jindal Stainless' transition to a cleaner and more resilient energy mix and to reinforce the role of large-scale renewable infrastructure in industrial energy strategies. Oyster Renewable characterised the execution as demonstrating its capability to deliver hybrid systems with capital discipline and technological depth and noted emphasis on local workforce participation and regional supply-chain engagement during construction. The partners expect the fully operational project to enable Jindal Stainless to abate around 0.65 mn t of carbon emissions per year and to strengthen access to firm clean power for energy-intensive operations.

Jindal Stainless is described as India’s leading stainless steel manufacturer and had an annual turnover of Rs 401.82 bn in FY25, with operations and sales presence across multiple countries. The company is expanding capacity and relies on integrated electric arc furnace operations to enhance recyclability and lower greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with its stated sustainability objectives. The project underlines the growing collaboration between renewable developers and industrial consumers to accelerate India’s clean energy transition and to generate regional economic value through local engagement.
