JSW to Invest Rs 160 Billion in Bengal Power Project

JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal announced a Rs 160 billion investment to develop a 1,600 MW thermal power project at Salboni, West Bengal. Speaking at the Bengal Global Business Summit 2025, he revealed plans to double capacity with a similar-scale investment. The group will also support industrial park and infrastructure development at Durgapur airport. JSW Energy secured the project through a competitive bidding process by the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company (WBSEDCL). The company received a Letter of Award to develop and operate the 1,600 MW (2x800 MW) coal-based plant.

With this project, JSW Energy's total locked-in generation capacity has reached 30 GW, including 9 GW from thermal power. The company aims to achieve its 20 GW capacity target ahead of 2030. Part of the $24 billion JSW Group, JSW Energy is among India's top private power producers. [PTI)
