JTEKT Corporation has commissioned a 2 MWp solar carport at its Kagawa facility in Japan under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Peak Energy. The project is expected to generate around 2,500 MWh annually and reduce electricity costs by nearly 40 per cent compared to grid power.

The installation spans 640 parking spaces and was completed within five months, supplying on-site renewable energy while supporting cost stability and decarbonisation goals. It is also projected to avoid approximately 1,090 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

Under the agreement, Peak Energy handled design, financing, installation and long-term operations and maintenance, enabling JTEKT to adopt renewable energy without significant upfront investment.

The project reflects a growing shift among Japanese manufacturers towards site-level renewable solutions amid rising energy costs and supply uncertainties. Solar carports are emerging as a viable option to generate clean power without additional land use, while enhancing operational efficiency.

JTEKT stated that the initiative aligns with its target to reduce CO₂ emissions by 60 per cent by FY2030, reinforcing its commitment to carbon neutrality and sustainable manufacturing practices.
