KP Energy Limited has received a Letter of Intent from Emmvee Energy Private Limited to set up a wind?solar hybrid power project under the Group Captive route in Karnataka. This award marks the company’s first order in Karnataka and represents a strategic step in geographic expansion beyond its core markets. The proposed project comprises 21 megawatt (MW) of wind capacity and 21 megawatt?peak (MWp) of solar capacity, taking the total project size to 42 MW.

The plant is intended to be commissioned to meet the captive power requirements of Emmvee Energy Private Limited’s manufacturing facilities in Karnataka, the company said in a regulatory filing. The arrangement under Group Captive mode is described as strengthening KP Energy’s presence in the commercial and industrial (C&I) and Group Captive segments and reinforcing its role as a renewable energy partner. The hybrid configuration is designed to couple wind and solar generation to improve utilisation and seasonal and diurnal complementarity between resources.

Emmvee has so far established five module manufacturing facilities in Karnataka, including a fifth facility at Sulibele near Bengaluru International Airport that added two gigawatt?peak (GWp) of solar photovoltaic module capacity last year. In 2023 Emmvee launched a fully automated solar cell and module manufacturing unit in Dabaspet, Karnataka, spanning 500,000 square feet and located adjacent to the company’s 750 MW module facility. Those factory investments underpin the captive demand profile that the hybrid plant is planned to serve.

The regulatory filing did not disclose a commissioning timeline or financial terms and did not provide additional operational detail. The Letter of Intent signals commercial momentum for KP Energy’s project development pipeline in the C&I sector and will add to the firm’s project activity in southern India. Progress will depend on detailed engineering, permitting and execution stages, and stakeholders will monitor how the project advances through these phases.
