Lakhanpur in Odisha to Get 10 MW Solar Plant by APM Projects

APM Projects has been awarded a contract by the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) for the development of a 10 MW grid-connected solar power plant in Lakhanpur, Odisha. The project, with an estimated value of approximately Rs 487.33 million, reflects India’s continued focus on advancing sustainable energy solutions.

The solar power facility will cover an area of 15 hectares in Kirarama village, located in Jharsuguda district, and is aimed at strengthening the energy infrastructure supporting the Mahanadi Coalfields region. Under the agreement, APM Projects will be responsible for the complete engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the plant, as well as its operation and maintenance for a period of ten years.

As per the technical requirements, the project must utilize high-efficiency solar modules with a minimum output of 550 Wp and string inverters with at least 250 kW capacity. The electricity generated by the plant will be evacuated via a 33 kV double circuit overhead transmission line to the nearby 132/33 kV Jorabaga substation, thereby ensuring its effective integration into the regional grid.

This initiative forms part of Coal India’s broader strategic effort to diversify its energy portfolio and curb carbon emissions. The company has indicated that its shift from conventional coal-based energy to renewable sources is aligned with India’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions and contributing to global sustainability targets.

The Lakhanpur project not only highlights a move towards cleaner energy but also serves as a model for future collaborations between public sector enterprises and private companies in the renewable energy space. Such partnerships are seen as crucial to accelerating the country's transition to an environmentally sustainable energy ecosystem.
