L&T Sets Up New Unit to Develop Green Hydrogen Projects
LTGEK has been formed with the specific objective of developing green hydrogen and its derivatives, including green ammonia. The subsidiary will also engage in other related business activities within the clean energy space. In line with the formation of the company, L&T Energy Green Tech, along with its nominee shareholder, has fully subscribed to the equity shares of LTGEK, with a total investment of Rs 1,00,000.
Green hydrogen is produced through the electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, or hydropower. Unlike conventional hydrogen production methods, this process does not emit carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases, making it a sustainable and eco-friendly solution for industrial and energy applications.
The establishment of LTGEK marks a significant step in L&T’s larger strategy to contribute to the global energy transition. This move is part of L&T’s continued push into the green energy sector, following earlier announcements regarding its plans to roll out 150–200 megawatts (MW) of electrolyser manufacturing capacity by September 2025.
By creating this new subsidiary, L&T aims to position itself as a key player in the evolving green hydrogen ecosystem, supporting both national and global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote clean energy alternatives.
