Mitsubishi Power has secured a significant contract to supply advanced gas turbine technology for Qatar’s Facility E Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP), strengthening the country’s power and water infrastructure. The order has been awarded in cooperation with Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group, the EPC contractor, by Ras Abu Fontas Power Company, in partnership with Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA).

Under the contract, Mitsubishi Power will supply state-of-the-art, hydrogen-ready M701JAC gas turbines for the Facility E project located in Ras Abu Fontas, around 25 km south of Doha. Once operational, the plant will add 2.4 GW of electricity—around 20 per cent of Qatar’s national grid capacity—and deliver 495,000 tonnes per day of desalinated water, supporting rising demand for power and water.

Facility E will mark the first installation of Mitsubishi Power’s JAC technology in Qatar. The turbines are designed for high efficiency, flexible operation, and future co-firing with hydrogen, supporting grid stability and Qatar’s decarbonisation roadmap under National Vision 2030.

In addition to equipment supply, Mitsubishi Power has signed a long-term service agreement covering parts, repairs, and maintenance to ensure high availability and reliable performance over the plant’s lifecycle. The Facility E IWPP is expected to begin operations in 2028, reinforcing Qatar’s long-term energy security and sustainability goals.
