MNRE Extends PM-KUSUM Project Deadline To 31 March 2027

India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has extended the completion deadline for the PM-KUSUM project to 31 March 2027. The move is intended to provide additional time for implementing agencies to finalise installations of decentralised solar power and solar agricultural pumps under the programme. The extension covers ongoing projects that faced delays due to logistical constraints and supply chain disruptions, and it aims to ensure that sanctioned capacities are commissioned and integrated with local distribution networks.

The ministry indicated that the extension will allow states and utilities to align tendering, land acquisition and grid synchronisation processes without compromising technical standards. It added that the window will help secure project financing and enable vendors to plan procurement schedules with greater certainty. Central and state authorities are expected to coordinate closely to monitor progress and expedite interconnection clearances where necessary to prevent further slippage.

Stakeholders noted that the extension may partially mitigate challenges faced by small suppliers and installer firms that experienced factory shutdowns and transport bottlenecks. The additional time could be used to complete quality assurance and commissioning tests, address grid stability concerns and train operations staff for maintenance. Analysts observed that timely utilisation of the extended period will be critical to achieving the intended outcomes of enhanced access to clean energy for agricultural users.

The ministry will monitor project milestones and report progress to relevant authorities to ensure accountability and transparent disbursal of funds. Market participants expect that the extension will sustain investor confidence in the scheme and support broader decarbonisation goals. The extended timeline is intended to balance pragmatic delivery considerations with the policy objective of expanding decentralised renewable capacity and improving rural energy reliability.
