The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has granted provisional approval to new players for inclusion in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List I. This move aims to strengthen India's solar manufacturing sector by ensuring higher quality standards and fostering competition.

The ALMM is a crucial regulatory mechanism that guarantees the use of reliable and efficient solar modules in government-supported projects. By expanding the list with new manufacturers, MNRE seeks to enhance the overall quality of solar products available in the market, supporting India's ambitious renewable energy targets.

The provisional approval allows these new players to supply solar modules for government projects, provided they meet the stringent quality and performance standards set by the MNRE. This step is expected to attract more investments into the solar manufacturing sector, promote innovation, and boost domestic production capabilities.

Industry experts have welcomed this development, highlighting its potential to reduce dependency on imported solar modules and promote self-reliance in the renewable energy sector. The inclusion of additional manufacturers in ALMM List I will also help stabilise supply chains and ensure a steady availability of high-quality solar modules for various projects across the country.

The MNRE's decision aligns with the government's broader goal of achieving 100 GW of solar capacity by 2022 and 450 GW of renewable energy by 2030.
